In my experience, although there is no guarantee that a person with many years of experience will excel at their work, the converse is often true: People with limited experience seldom excel. So these hiring managers may be making costly errors in judgment.

We see this in other areas of life, such as the "10000 hour rule" as it applies to musical process and virtuosity, or the requirements for pilots to log a particular number of hours of flight time. There is no better method of achieving proficiency other than experience.

Failing to hire those who are experienced is a foolish way to save a penny and waste a pound.
